Eastern Ky. flooding death toll at 15, expected to double

The death toll from historic flash flooding Thursday morning in eastern Kentucky has risen to 15 and Governor Andy Beshear expects that number to double and to include some children. Women from Hopkinsville, Clarksville sought after Paducah attempted robbery

Paducah police are looking for two women from Hopkinsville and Clarksville in connection with a stolen vehicle and attempted robbery. They allege 38-year old Latasha Taylor of Clarksville went into a store near Kentucky Oaks Mall last Friday afternoon and handed a clerk a note saying a man who was holding her hostage would shoot someone if they didn’t give her money. Man arrested on felony assault charge

A man was arrested for felony assault following an incident Thursday morning at the Manhattan Motel on South Main Street. Hopkinsville police charged 41-year old Genesis Bloomer of Hopkinsville with second-degree assault, with a report alleging he struck 22-year old Isaiah Jessup on the head with a hammer, causing minor injuries. The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. and Bloomer was lodged in the Christian County Jail.

Eastern Kentucky counties devastated by flooding

Governor Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency for areas of eastern Kentucky devastated by flash flooding Thursday morning. At least six counties had already declared local states of emergency: Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Letcher, Owsley and Pike. Unemployment up from May to June, down from a year ago

Unemployment was up from May to June in all nine Pennyrile counties, but it was down across the region from one year ago. Chrsitian County’s jobless rate is 5.4 percent, up from 4.9 percent in May and down from 7.4 percent in June of 2021. It equated to 1,360 people who were looking for work, but were unable to find it. Expansion of broadband fiber internet access in the region continues in a partnership between HES Energy Net, Pennyrile Electric and the counties.
