Two displaced by kitchen fire

Two people were displaced by a cooking fire Thursday afternoon on Peppermint Drive. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, but there was enough smoke damage elsewhere in the home at 3408 Peppermint that the two residents could not stay there, according to Hopkinsville Fire Department Captain Michael Pendleton. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents and no one was injured in the blaze.

Planters Bank donates $7k to local agencies

Planters Bank has donated over $7,000 to Hopkinsville non-profit agencies as a result of the bank's annual Season of Giving. According to a news release, during the season of Season of Giving campaign, 100% of purchases of Kentucky-made bacon and Clarksville-made jams featured in each Planters Bank branch were donated to the non-profits. At the same time, a successful Facebook and Twitter campaign added to the fundraiser. Monday kicks off Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kentucky and the campaign kickoff was held Thursday in Christian County, which was the site of Kentucky’s strongest tornado in 2018. Austin Peay readying for Spring Practice

Austin Peay will begin spring football practice on Thursday March 14th. The Governors will hold Tuesday and Thursday practices beginning at 5:30 pm and Saturday practices at 10 am. The workouts will include new coach Mark Hudspeth’s first Spring game on Saturday April 6th at 11 am.

WKU’s Bassey nominated for several CUSA awards

The Bowling Green Daily News reports Western Kentucky freshman sensation Charles Bassey has been nominated for Conference USA’s Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Bassey has averaged 15.1 points, 10.6 rebounds and 34 blocks in Conference USA games this season. UK adds New Mexico State to 2021 football schedule

According to the website FBSSchedules.com, Kentucky has added a 2021 home date against New Mexico State. The game, to be played November 21,2021 will be a $1.2 million payout for the Aggies, who will play at another SEC school, Alabama, the week before. It will be the second all-time meeting between the schools.

Former UK kicker MacGinnis signs with Memphis of AAF

CBS Sports.com reports former Kentucky kicker Austin MacGinnis has signed to play with Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football League. MacGinnis made 51-64 field goal attempts and 102-104 extra points in his Wildcats career from 2014-17. MacGinnis holds UK’s scoring mark with 359 career points.
