History was made Wednesday morning, as students took their first steps and the first classes at the new Christian County High School, and students were welcomed back to their schools across the district for the first day of school.
Traffic was no problem at the new school that welcomes buses, student drop offs and student drivers, with everything seeming to flow smoothly at an intersection that many have pondered would be able to handle the increase in traffic.
Executive Principal Ken Carver says traffic flow was a dream for the first day, and while classes themselves started just a little late as students figured out the new building, he couldn’t have asked for a better start.
He has a lot of goals and ambitions for the new building and especially his new students, but he says they’ll take it one day at a time and improve every step of the way.
Christian County High School Senior, Student Ambassador, Band Student and WHOP Co-Op Student A’Niyah Wilford says she’s very excited to get this new year started, and she’s particularly excited for people to see what this new school has to offer.
Wilford will be working with and writing for WHOP News for the coming school year, and she’s ready to highlight her fellow students and bring their stories to the radio.
Smooth sailing seemed to be the name of the game for the first day of school, with Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel saying he was happy to report no major hiccups.
There were roughly 7,850 students enrolled for the first day of school, but Bentzel says it’s likely that number will fluctuate some in the coming weeks.
With the first football game of the season and the first showing of the Christian County Tiger Band set for this Friday, it’s shaping up to be a powerhouse year of school for Christian County students.
