Trigg County’s Tim Bush was selected as 2nd region Coach of the Year this week by the region’s coaches. Bush led Trigg County to a 19-12 record this season including a berth in the 2nd region tournament where the Wildcats defeated Hopkinsville in the opening round before bowing to Union County Wednesday night in the semifinals.
Semifinal action concluded last night at Hopkins Central with Christian County defeating Madisonville 6-4 in a suspended game from earlier in the week. Caldwell County trailed 2-0 early but rallied to defeat Crittenden County 7-2. The Hoptown Hoppers won for the second time in as many nights, defeating Madisonville 7-3 at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Blake Jackson had two hits including a two run home run for Hoptown, with Malik Blaise also adding a pair of hits. Owensboro defeated Dubois County 6-4, Muhlenberg County edged Henderson 5-3 and Paducah’s road date with Fulton was postponed due to wet grounds. Tonight’s OVL schedule: Muhlenberg County goes to Henderson, Fulton travels to Paducah and Owensboro faces Dubois County.
Austin Peay is beginning the search for a new athletics director. The school announced that Mayfield native Ryan Ivey, who has been on the job since 2015, is leaving to become the new AD at Stephen F. Austin of the Southland Conference. An interim AD will be named with a search to begin for Ivey's replacement.
The Ohio Valley Conference held its honors brunch in Nashville Friday. Recent Murray State grad and basketball standout Jonathan Stark received his award as the OVC Male Athlete of the Year and legendary Austin Peay basketball coach and athletics director Dave Loos was named to the OVC Hall of Fame.
Due to weather, play was suspended in the second round of the US Women’s Open at Shoal Creek outside of Birmingham. Princeton’s Emma Talley had played only six holes when weather halted play. The Guthrie Police Department arrested two men Thursday night, following a traffic stop on Dixie Beeline in Guthrie. According to the police report from Sgt.
