City council approves budget on first-reading

Hopkinsville City Council approved first reading of a $41.1 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year during Tuesday night’s meeting. The city will have to spend an additional $600,000 in pension costs in the upcoming budget and city employees would receive a two-percent cost-of-living raise if the plan passes second reading. Todd Co. Health Department reports eight COVID-19 cases

The Todd County Health Department on Tuesday announced eight new cases of COVID-19. One adult is hospitalized and the other patients are healing at home. Fourteen of 16 active cases are at home and two are hospitalized. Anyone needing a vaccine can get one by appointment or walk-in Wednesday through Friday at the Todd County Health Department.

Teen killed in Dawson Springs shooting

Kentucky State Police is investigating the fatal shooting of a Dawson Springs teen. Troopers were called to Hosick Avenue in Dawson Springs about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday and determined that 16-year old Dakota Carter of Dawson Springs had been shot. He later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to a news release. KSP say foul play is suspected and anyone with information should call Post 2 at 1-800-222-5555.

Senior centers set to reopen June 11, new deaths identified in audit

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported Tuesday that senior citizens center will reopen on June 11, and his live press conferences concerning COVID are coming to an end. The Christian County Public School System is hopeful next year will be a return to normality, but summer programs begin next week. The Summer Learning Institute kicks off Monday, with many students taking advantage of the program that Superintendent Chris Bentzel calls not your typical summer school. Caldwell County wins 7th district baseball title today

Caldwell County blanked Madisonville 5-0 in the 7th district baseball final today at Elmer Kelley Stadium. The win avenged a 5-4 loss during the regular season at home as the Tigers improved to 13-12 while Madisonville is now 11-15. Both teams will be in the 2nd region tournament that begins Saturday at University Heights Academy.
