HPD investigating Gateway Lane burglary

The Hopkinsville Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred on Gateway Lane over the weekend. According to the police report, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence sometime Saturday and stole the victim’s wallet and cellphone. Personal items taken contained a debit card, driver’s license, insurance cards and $250 in cash. No suspect is listed on the report and the investigation continues.

One hurt in Madisonville collision

A Madisonville man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Madisonville. According to a news release from the Madisonville Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of East Arch Street and North Daves Street for a two-vehicle collision. Investigation determined that a vehicle driven by 24-year old Maverick Phillips of Madisonville was travelling south on North Daves Street, approaching the intersection. For the first time since 1999, the 14th ranked Kentucky Wildcats play in a New Year’s Day bowl game today against 12th ranked Penn State in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Vanderbilt closed out 2018 with a win by beating UNC-Asheville 90-59 yesterday. Matt Ryan led the Commodores with 19 points in the win. Vandy improved to 9-and-3 and opens SEC play on Saturday against Ole Miss.

WKU’s Bassey receives Conference USA weekly honor

Western Kentucky freshman Charles Bassey won his fourth Conference USA Freshman of the Week honor Monday. Bassey had 19 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots in last Saturday’s 83-76 upset of 15th ranked Wisconsin in Diddle Arena. The Toppers open Conference USA play Thursday night at Charlotte.

Titans Orapko announces retirement

Tennessee Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo is hanging up his cleats. The four-time Pro Bowler announced his retirement yesterday after a 10-year career. Orakpo spent his first six seasons in Washington before joining the Titans four years ago. He recorded 28 tackles, one-and-a-half sacks and a forced fumble this season.

Preds end losing streak against Caps

HPD: Man shot in chest, one arrested for assault

One man was arrested and another is being treated for a gunshot wound following an incident New Year’s Eve afternoon. According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded first to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where staff were reporting that Lendie Johnson of Hopkinsville had walked into the Emergency Room with a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was taken to a Nashville hospital for treatment. Guthrie Dollar General robbed at gunpoint

The Guthrie Dollar General store was robbed at gunpoint New Year’s Eve night. Guthrie Police say a light-skinned black male, possible in his early 20’s, entered the store at 9:54 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money from an employee.
