Former Colonel Lewis earns GMAC Co-Freshman of the Year

Former Christian County High School bowler Aiden Lewis has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Co-Freshman Bowler of the Year.  Lewis, who attends Thomas More and Walsh’s Brayden Darkow shared the honor.  During his rookie season, Lewis competed in 20 games and registered a total pin fall of 3,673, finishing his first regular season with an average of 183.65.   In addition to bowling, Lewis also played baseball for Christian County. UHA’s Luckey commits to Brescia University

University Heights Academy senior baseball player Ryan Luckey has committed to Brescia University.  The centerfielder/pitcher told WHOP Sports on Wednesday morning that he has recently committed to the Owensboro school and plans to sign his letter soon.  Luckey went 2-for-7 and scored six runs in the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Baseball Tournament last weekend. Kerr enters guilty plea to manslaughter in death of Illinois man

Brian Kerr Jr., the Tennessee man charged with murder in the death of an Illinois man in Christian County in 2024, entered a guilty plea in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning. Kerr entered a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter, amended from the original murder charge, and that comes with a recommended 15-year sentence. Oak Grove trio arrested following a welfare check for six minors

Deputies from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office arrested three individuals from Oak Grove following a welfare check for six minors on Tuesday. Twenty-four-year-old Austin Burns, 35-year-old Shanelle Bailey and 48-year-old Tina Burns all of Oak Grove were charged with first-degree wanton endangerment after deputies found that the six children in their home were living in poor conditions. Salvation army lieutenants set to depart Hopkinsville

After serving two years in Hopkinsville, Salvation Army Lieutenants David and Britney Donegan have their new orders and will be relocating to South Carolina. The Donegans came to the Hopkinsville office in 2024, coming from the Paducah Salvation Army where they served for three years before coming here. The 2026 Hoptown Hoppers baseball season is quickly approaching and the team is seeking host families for players.  The season runs Memorial Day through early August.  Host families receive season tickets for Hoppers games. Anyone interested in hosting a Hoppers is asked to call Lea Martin at 270-498-9019.

CCHS, UHA honor senior tennis players Tuesday

Before rain moved into the area on Tuesday night, Christian County and University Heights Academy honored their senior tennis players during separate ceremonies at Ruff Park’s tennis courts.  Christian County seniors recognized included Ashlea Russell, Noah Davis and Lacey Paige.  UHA paid tribute to Alyssa Grise, Sigrid Fantini, and Cecilia Langhi.  The teams were scheduled to play a match, but due to the incoming weather, the match was canceled.  Photos by Joe Wilson
