Kerr enters guilty plea to manslaughter in death of Illinois man

Brian Kerr Jr., the Tennessee man charged with murder in the death of an Illinois man in Christian County in 2024, entered a guilty plea in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Kerr entered a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter, amended from the original murder charge, and that comes with a recommended 15-year sentence. Kerr pleaded guilty to his role in the shooting death of 37-year-old Dmytro Sebeniuk of Des Plaines, Illinois, which happened on December 28 of 2024 at the Pilot Travel Center off of Pembroke-Oak Grove Road.

Judge John Atkins accepted his plea of guilt, and Kerr will not be eligible for probation.

There’s an agreement that some of Kerr’s property that was being held as evidence will be returned to Kerr following final sentencing.

Kerr will also be awaiting extradition to Tennessee, where he is facing charges. Kerr is accused of shooting Sebeniuk before stealing his car and driving it to Humphreys County, Tennessee. Kerr was arrested by Illinois State Police during a pursuit and is also wanted for multiple charges out of Maury and Humphreys Counties.
