The Cincinnati Reds offense struggled all game as the Chicago Cubs got an easy 10-1 win Sunday at Great American Ball Park. Joey Votto scored the only Cincinnati run with a solo homer in the sixth inning. They worked out former New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski over the weekend and are planning in bringing in Stephen Hauschka for a workout. Jon Rahm sank a 66-foot putt to defeat Dustin Johnson on the first playoff hole to win the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. Johnson made a 45-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to force the playoff. Rahm's 64 was the lowest round of the tournament, finishing a four-under 276. What’s normally the first of the Triple Crown series takes place this Saturday as the Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs. Tiz the Law is the pre-race favorite and had its final Derby workout over the weekend. Trainer Barclay Tagg was “satisfied” with the horse’s final workout, according the Courier Journal.
Nashville SC claimed its first ever home MLS win, beating InterMiami FC 1-0 at Nissan Stadium. Anibal Godoy scored the goal eight minutes into the last half. Nashville, a first-year expansion club, is seventh in the MLS East with seven points in seven games. Nashville's next game is Wednesday at Orlando City.
Two men were arrested on drug trafficking charges following an investigation early Sunday morning on Jones Street. An arrest citation says Hopkinsville police were patrolling the area and saw 26-year old Jermon Childs of Hopkinsville outside a home and knew him to be sought on felony warrants. Hopkinsville City Council will consider a property tax rate increase when they meet for the first time in September Tuesday evening. The ordinance on the agenda for first reading would increase the tax rate on real property to 24.7 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value—an increase of eight tenths of one cent.
