Rotary extends deadline to apply for scholars program

The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville has extended the Rotary Scholars deadline to July 15 for incoming Hopkinsville Community College students who graduated from a high school in Christian County this year. Almost 350 local high school graduates from the class of 2020 are eligible to receive a tuition-free associate degree from HCC through the Rotary Scholars Program, according to HCC officials. Austin Peay State University will name an interim president at a special-called Board of Trustees meeting next week. APSU officials say the meeting will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 6 via Zoom. HCC likely to utilize Todd County tech center in coming months

Todd Fiscal Court will likely vote on a lease agreement Tuesday afternoon that would allow Hopkinsville Community College to utilize the tech center on the campus of Todd County Central High School, but the ultimate goal is to have local high school students learning in the building again in the future. Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri and the University of Dayton have mutually agreed to cancel their season opening game due to Covid-19 concerns. The game on September 3rd was to be the first of a home and home series. Both teams will work to reschedule the game in Cape Girardeau during a future season. SEMO is searching for another opponent to fill the vacancy.

Former WKU and NFL coach Bugel dies Sunday

Newton signs contract with Patriots

The New England Patriots have reached an agreement with free-agent quarterback Cam Newton, bringing in the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player to help the team move on from three-time MVP Tom Brady, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press. The one-year deal is worth up to $7.5 million with incentives, the person said. The signing was first reported by ESPN.

Frittelli the latest golfer to test positive for Covid-19

Another PGA Tour player has tested positive for Covid-19. Golf.com reports Dylan Frittelli tested positive before boarding the Tour’s chartered jet heading to Detroit for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Frittelli had missed the cut at the Travelers Championship that concluded yesterday. He played the first two rounds with Ian Poulter and JT Poston. Frittelli is the fourth player to test positive for Covid-19.

NBC officially will telecast USGA events immediately
