University Heights Academy’s 4x400-meter relay team narrowly missed a state championship on Thursday in the KHSAA Class 1-A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington. The team of Clayton Lester, Griffin McCoy, Harlow Hampton, and Logan Miller set a new school record with a time of 3:27.25 to finish second place. Christian County senior Avery Adcock was named to the All Region 2 Softball Team on Wednesday night. Adcock, who has signed to play next year at Missouri, hit .568 with 13 home runs, 27 RBI, 11 doubles, and 36 stolen bases this season. Former Hopkinsville High School baseball player Gavin Powell will play college baseball at Rend Lake College. Powell told WHOP Sports Thursday afternoon he had committed to the school last fall. The pitcher/shortstop will play for the Hoptown Hoppers this summer. Powell hit .359 and had a 3.06 ERA this season for the Tigers. File Photo
Phase 2 for Spring Creek Parkway in Clarksville is set to begin soon, after phase 1 was completed earlier this year in the effort to improve traffic and travel in that area. The staff at Hope’s Healthcare were joined by Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight who read a proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month on Thursday. The Christian County Chamber of Commerce announced that Hopkinsville native Dr. Eugene Poole Jr. will be the keynote speaker for its 136th Annual Dinner.
