SEC honors Vanderbilt’s Fuller in weekly awards

The first woman to play in a Power Five conference football game has received honors from her league. The Southeastern Conference named Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller as its Co-Special Teams player of the Week following her 30 yard squib kick in Vandy’s 41-0 loss at Missouri on Saturday.

Kentucky falls 10 spots to 20th in the newest Associated Press Top 25 poll with Gonzaga number one and Baylor number two. Tennessee is 13th in the poll which also finds Richmond, who defeated Kentucky Sunday, ranked 19th in the poll. Peay’s Taylor named OVC Player of the Week

Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor is the first Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week award winner this season. The senior from Bowling Green averaged 22.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game while hitting 61.2% from the field in 3 games at Gulf Coast Showcase. Had double-doubles in all 3 games as APSU went 2-1. The Governors are back in action in their home opener against Transylvania.

Vandy shuts down basketball activities due to Covid-19

Vanderbilt University has paused basketball activities due to Covid-19 issues. This means the Commodores will not play in the Legends Classic this week in Uncasville, CT. Vandy was scheduled to play Connecticut tomorrow and either USC or BYU on Wednesday. The Commodores are 1-0 on the season following a win last Friday night over Valparaiso.

WKU Lady Topper Collett named CUSA Freshman of the Week

photo credit: WKU Athletics Western Kentucky’s Ally Collett has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week. Collett had a team-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including three 3-pointers and a perfect day from the free throw line (5-of-5) in Saturday’s season opening loss at Tennessee. The Lady Toppers welcome Ball State to Diddle Arena for their home opener on Saturday at 2 pm.

EDC receives ‘clean’ audit, unemployment down in region

The South West Kentucky Economic Development Council heard their yearly audit report at Monday’s meeting and unemployment has decreased in the region. Hopkins County reports three new COVID deaths

The Hopkins County Health Department has announced three more COVID-19 deaths and 137 new cases since Wednesday of last week. There have now been 53 coronavirus fatalities since the pandemic began in Hopkins County. At least 1,207 of the 1,892 total cases have recovered.

Calloway Co. SO charges three with felonies in theft investigation

A theft investigation in Calloway County on Saturday led to three arrests where the suspects are facing felony charges.
