Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K surpasses 300 sign-ups

The city will be filled with eager runners, walkers and marathoners in September, when Hopkinsville hosts its inaugural half marathon and 5k racing event. 30 indicted on drug trafficking charges in Christian Co.

A Christian County Grand Jury has indicted 30 people on drug trafficking charges following a six-month investigation in Christian County by the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force. According to a news release, all suspects have been charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, expect for one, and many of them are also charged with being a persistent felony offender. Austin Peay’s Williams receives preseason honors

Austin Peay senior running back Kentel Williams has been named Preseason Second-Team All-America as an all-purpose player by STATS FCS. Williams led the FCS in yards per carry a season ago, averaging almost eight yards per rush. He finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing yards, racking up 831 yards and seven touchdowns on 104 carries. OVC to field Beach Volleyball next spring

The Ohio Valley Conference announced today the addition of beach volleyball as a league sport beginning in the spring of next year. Five current OVC members-Austin Peay, UT Martin, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State and Morehead State-have the sport and a sixth, UT Chattanooga will join the OVC as an associate member in this sport.

Former babysitter convicted of abuse of infant

A babysitter arrested last summer for abuse against an infant was convicted Monday by a jury in Christian Circuit Court. The jury found 41-year old Amanda Jo Hargis of White Plains guilty on two counts of second-degree child abuse and one count of third-degree child abuse. She was sentenced by the jury to two years in prison and lodged in the Christian County Jail after having her bond revoked. According […]

William Turner continues recovery after stroke, appreciates support from community

Official local historian William Turner continues to recover after suffering a mild stroke in June and he’s thankful for all of the support he’s received in the community. Woman arrested for felony custodial interference

A Hopkinsville woman was arrested Monday afternoon for felony custodial interference. An arrest citation for 22-year old Alicea Curtis of Hopkinsville says the father of her child has full-time custody, per the order of a judge in Montgomery County, Tennessee. Curtis had visitation with the child around July 4, but refused to return the juvenile, allegedly sending a text message to the father saying he’d never see the child again. […]
