WKU athletics gets $1 million gift

Western Kentucky’s athletic program has received a $1 million gift from a former football player. According to a news release from WKU, Joe Micatratto and his wife Sunshine made the donation to WKU’s football and volleyball programs along with the WKU Opportunity Funds and capital projects. Micatratto played tight end for the Hilltoppers from 1993-97.

Titans Vaccaro out with elbow injury

Tennessee Titans safety Kenny Vaccaro suffered a dislocated elbow in Sunday’s 26-23 overtime win over the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL Network reports Vaccaro will miss several weeks. The 3-1 Titans look for their fourth straight win Sunday at Buffalo.

Hartnell announces retirement from NHL

Forward Scott Hartnell has announced his retirement after playing 17 NHL seasons. Hartnell posted news of his retirement to Twitter today, just a few days before the regular season. The 36-year-old Hartnell was unsigned after spending last season in Nashville. Hartnell put up 327 goals and 380 assists for 707 points in 1,249 regular-season games with the Predators, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ryder Cup fallout continues

Louisville area native Justin Thomas took to Twitter today to congratulate the Europeans for winning the Ryder Cup Sunday. Thomas-who has four of the American’s 10 ½ points-thanked captain Jim Furyk and that he would play for him again and continues to have faith in the decisions made. Tenn. fugitive kills again in carjacking, then ditches vehicle

Police in Montgomery County say Kirby Wallace killed again in a carjacking Monday morning and that he later ditched that pickup to take off again on foot. Four injured in Hopkins County after vehicle hits deer, crashes

Four people were injured in an accident on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County Sunday morning. The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department investigated the incident and says 65-year old Brenda Whitt of Union City, Tennessee was northbound when she struck a deer that entered her path.
