I-24 improvement project to start in Marshall County in October

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that nighttime lane restrictions are set to begin Monday, October 6 on Interstate 24 in Marshall County.

The work zone runs from the Exit 27/U.S. 62 interchange to the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge. Crews will begin with paving, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about one week.

Then, barrier walls will be installed near Exit 27 and the I-24 eastbound on-ramp at U.S. 62, shifting traffic into a new pattern while keeping all lanes open. This phase is expected to continue through mid-December, weather permitting.

A 55 mph speed limit will be in place, and drivers are urged to slow down and use caution in the work zone.

The project, led by Jim Smith Contracting, is valued at $10.14 million and scheduled for completion by Sept. 4, 2026.

Meanwhile, a separate project on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge will also begin on Monday, reducing traffic to one lane each way during daytime hours for about three weeks.
