To spotlight Black History Month, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission is preparing to test the community’s Black history knowledge with trivia competitions as well as host a special first 2024 installment of the Supper Club.
Commission Executive Director, Raychel Farmer shared that students in the community will go head-to-head in their 31st annual trivia bowl and is excited to continue the tradition and see which team comes out on top.
Farmer says registration for the trivia bowl has passed, but they are still looking for volunteers to help with moderating, score keeping, judging and more. Those interested in volunteering can register on the commission’s Facebook and training will be on February 6 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center in room 137.
Those who are interested in spectating can attend the trivia bowl on February 17 at the Hopkinsville Community College Auditorium Building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For adults who want to put their Black history knowledge to the test, the Commission is hosting a Black History Trivia Night at Davo’s on February 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Beyond the trivia events, Farmer says they are partnering with the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County to host their first Supper Club meeting of 2024. The Supper Club kicked off last year and serves introduce people to the cuisine of different cultures. Farmer says in the past they have spotlighted Indian and Kenyan foods and on February 8 they will be spotlighting African American soul food.
Tickets for the Supper Club meeting on February 6 costs $10 and can be bought on Shopify.
