CASA by the Lakes recently received a WHAS Crusade for Children Grant to create a new position that will support volunteer recruitment and training efforts.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national association that supports and provides a voice for children going through the court system who may have experienced abuse or neglect and do not have a permanent home. CASA by the Lakes was established in Calloway County in 1997 and expanded to Marshall County in 2007 before coming to Christian County in 2024.

According to a news release, the $20,000 grant will be distributed over a two-year period and will support an Advocate Supervisor position. The person in this role will be responsible for recruiting and supporting the volunteer advocates working with children.

CASA by the Lakes Executive Director Jessica Foust says the grant will help them build a stronger volunteer program, allowing them to reach more children who need the support of a dedicated CASA volunteer.

The WHAS Crusade for Children, established by WHAS-TV in 1954, has reportedly raised over $225 million to support the welfare of children in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
