Local Friends of the Library invites community to fundraising gala

The Showbox in Hopkinsville will soon be transformed into a scene straight from the 1920s for the Friends of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library’s Gatsby Gala.

The Friends of the Library is a local organization that works to support the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library by volunteering and hosting fundraisers. Organization member Kristen Middlebrooks says they helped the library establish its outdoor book drop, support the Summer Reading Program and most recently provided scholarships for a babysitting class.

The Gatsby Gala, inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, “The Great Gatsby,” will take over the Showbox starting at 6 p.m. on August 28, and fellow member Angela Stallons says there will be a red carpet and folks are encouraged to wear 1920s attire. The gala will also include live jazz music by Black Kat Cadillac, trivia and some vintage cars parked out front.

To conclude the evening attendees will watch the film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby.” Proceeds from the gala will go toward the library and will help staff host programs and services for citizens.

In a news release, Library Executive Director Tiffany Luna says they are excited to bring the community together for an evening that celebrates literature while supporting the future of the library.
