It may feel like our heatwave will never end, but hold on just a little longer, because there’s only one day left of the Extreme Heat Warning before a cold front slides through Sunday night.
That cold front will spark up a few thunderstorms and some rain, bringing some much needed relief to the region that has been downright baking for the last week. Sunday brings heat index values between 105 and 115, so folks are encouraged to stay out of the direct sun as much as possible, keep to the air-conditioning and stay properly hydrated.
Late in the evening, the cold front could bring a severe storm or two, with damaging winds the main threat, though large hail would also be possible with any storms that manage to develop.
Once the heat dome breaks, next week is looking much more manageable temperature wise, with temperatures even dipping into the 80’s around Thursday.
