Madisonville Police are investigating the death of an infant who was left in a car for several hours on Thursday.
According to a report, the 10-month-old child was picked up by her grandmother, who was supposed to drop her off at daycare Thursday morning. The grandmother reportedly drove to Owensboro Health Multicare on South Main Street where she works, went inside and left the infant in her car.
When the child’s father went to pick her up from daycare at around 4 p.m., he reportedly found that she was never dropped off. The grandmother was then contacted concerning the infant’s whereabouts and that’s when she remembered her in the car.
The grandmother and her coworkers went to remove the infant from the car where she was reportedly unresponsive. Life saving measures were performed, but the infant succumbed to her injuries. The grandmother consented to a blood test, and an autopsy is set to be performed on the infant.
No charges have been issued yet.
