The Hopkinsville History Foundation and the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County are putting out the call for artists who have a love for history, as they look raise funds to support the museum and its mission.
They’ll be hosting the Palm Royale: The Museum’s Gant Gaither Gala on September 18, and it celebrates the life and work of one of Hopkinsville’s most creative souls. After graduating from Hopkinsville High School, this son of a local surgeon studied abroad, opened a theater in Miami, worked as a producer in Broadway and Hollywood, and became great friends with celebrities like Grace Kelly. He settled in the resort community of Palm Springs, California in the 1960s where he established himself as an artist.
Local artists are asked to create a new, original art piece celebrating the work of Gant Gaither, with 8 pieces produced by Gaither himself available for viewing at the museum. Those pieces of work can be used for inspiration to create some art that will be sold in an auction that day.
There are some guidelines, artists, including pieces that need to be delivered to the museum between September 8 and September 12 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. If the artwork is perishable, you can submit a photo of it by September 14. Fill out artist registration on the Museums of Hopkinsville website, and submissions are subject to approval by the Hopkinsville History Foundation.
Tickets to the Museum Gala can be purchased at the Pennyroyal Area Museum or online through Zeffy.
