After years of only being a concept, years of discussions and debates and planning and renderings on a screen, the new Christian County High School was made truly official Thursday morning, with a ribbon cutting and a heart felt ceremony.
You could feel the excitement in the air, as students were already gathering in the gymnasium and the halls, looking at their new school with a sense of awe and pride. CCHS Principal Ken Carver says when presented with the idea of the school long before it began taking shape, a student doubted whether it would happen.
He says she wasn’t the only one, but now, this new state-of-the-art facility is a reality, and it’s time to show the community and the students that it’s not where you started—it’s where you will go.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel says this new school comes with a promise to this community that the education students receive here will extend beyond the traditional.
The school will be using an academy style model of teaching and structure, and President Cheryl Carrier with Ford Next Generation Learning says this was a tremendous day. And its true impact will be felt for years to come.
Carver led the students in attendance in the school’s new cheer, that he says honors the two schools that came before, keeping the traditions of the Christian County Colonels and the Hopkinsville High School Tigers alive.
Then, in a special presentation from the new Christian County Tigers Band—which had already stunned the audience with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem—they played the new Fight Song of the school. It was arranged by CCHS student Alijandro Valdez.
Ground was broken for the facility in September of 2023. Now with the ribbon officially cut, it’s head-on towards August 19, where students will be welcomed in for the first day of school. It will mark the start of a new era of learning in Christian County, and with new athletic fields, music and art facilities on the way, the future is looking bright for students.
