Two Fort Campbell soldiers are set to receive the Purple Heart Medal at a ceremony later this month, honoring those wounded during an attack in Kuwait in 2003.
According to a news release, it was an insider attack that happened at Campbell Pennsylvania in Kuwait in 2003 when a United States soldier threw hand grenades into three 1st Brigade “Bastogne” living quarters tents. The attack killed two service members and wounded 14 others.
Now, a Purple Heart will be presented to Retired Lt. General Ben Hodges, and a Purple Heart will be presented posthumously to Captain Christopher Seifert, whose family will accept the medal on his behalf.
Other individuals wounded in the attack will be recognized at a later date at the Pentagon.
The ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 25, at the Wings of Liberty Museum on Fort Campbell, where retired General David Petraeus will preside over the ceremony.
