Tonight is the final night of the Western Kentucky State Fair, and organizers are hoping to have a huge crowd to help celebrate both their 75th anniversary, but also the country’s 250th birthday.
The attendance has already been very strong this year, with organizers Ellie Hancock and Megan Marsh telling WHOP saying they’re well pleased with the turnout, despite the weather trying to keep them away.
In fact, attendance remains right at last year’s pace, and 4,667 people went through the gates Friday night. So far, that means 30,764 people have attended the fair this year, and with a big night planned for Saturday, organizers are hoping they’ll go out on a high note.
Hancock says rain on Thursday was barely a hiccup in the events, thanks to the contributions of the local agriculture community to keep the track primed for truck and tractor pulling. She says it really has been a huge group effort to pull this fair off, and they can’t thank everyone enough.
They have a big Saturday night planned for City of Hopkinsville Day—gates open at 3:30 p.m. with the rides opening at 4 p.m. and all rides will be free between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. After that, it’s a $30 unlimited ride armband night.
Fan favorite UCW Wrestling returns to the air-conditioned convention center at 7 p.m. a $5 per person and Mid-South Truck and Tractor Pulls take over the grandstands at 7 p.m. as well. There will be live music thanks to the City of Hopkinsville and Christian Fiscal Court, and then, the 75th Western Kentucky State Fair will wrap up that night with a big fireworks show in honor of the Fourth of July.
Marsh and Hancock say they really tried to go all out this year, and so far it looks like everyone has had a great time.
Don’t miss out, head out to the fair grounds at 2810 Richard Street in Hopkinsville and get in on the action and the fun while it’s still there.
