We’re at just about the half-way point for the Western Kentucky State Fair, and the hot temperatures haven’t stopped fair goers from enjoying all it has to offer.
Wednesday is Military and First Responders Day at the fairgrounds, meaning active-duty military members, their dependents, veterans and first responders can get into the fair for free with ID. The gates open at 4:30 p.m. and those same folks can get unlimited ride armbands for $10 all evening.
For the rest of the public, it’s a $25 unlimited ride armband night, with Organizer Barry Cornelius saying there will be Pedal Pull Competitions in front of the convention center, a Hot Dog Eating Conest in the air-conditioned convention center starts at 7 p.m. and then a free admission comedy show will start at 7:30 p.m.
The Petting Zoo will be open all evening, and the 4-H Cloverville, FFA Exhibit and Home & Garden Exhibit will begin that morning, as will the 4-H/FFA Goat Show. In the grandstands, the first of the truck and tractor pulls get underway, starting with the Mini-Outlaw Pulls Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Thursday brings Christian County Farm Bureau Day, where Farm Bureau Members will be able to get in free until 6 p.m. Cornelius says you can swing by one of their offices and grab your entry coupon, and they’ll host several festivities in celebration.
Despite the hot temperatures and stormy weather, numbers are looking good so far for this year’s fair, with Cornelius saying they’re actually about 100 attendees ahead of last year’s fair at the same time.
