A Trenton teen was killed in a collision in Nashville on Monday, and another Trenton teen has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication in connection.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, it happened on Memorial Day at around 10:20 p.m. when a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Zachary Abbott of Trenton was heading westbound on Interstate 24 in Nashville. He was reportedly attempting to pass in traffic but wasn’t able to, so he moved onto the right shoulder, where he collided with an abandoned flatbed tow truck.
At the same time Abbott’s vehicle hit the flatbed, it also hit the back of another vehicle that was traveling the same direction on the interstate.
The impact caused the other vehicle to collide with two others drivers. The driver of that vehicle and her four children were transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
A passenger in Abbott’s vehicle, 18-year-old Talon Sewell, was ejected in the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. Abbott and another passenger went to the hospital with minor injuries.
The report states alcohol could be a factor in the crash. Abbott was charged with ten counts of reckless endangerment and vehicular homicide in the crash—his bond is currently $100,000.
