Measles has officially been ruled out following investigation into a possible case in Hopkins County.
That’s according to Hopkins County Health Department and Public Health Director Denise Beach, who states the possible case of measles that sparked investigation and mitigation efforts earlier in the week has been determined to not be measles, following results from laboratory testing.
If there ever is a confirmed case of measles—or any other contagious disease of community concern—Beach says they will investigate and notify the public immediately.
Measles is one of the most contagious viruses and is the cause of approximately 100,000 deaths annually in children under the age of five-years-old worldwide. Beach says measles is back on the rise due to vaccine hesitancy, and she urges parents to speak with their doctor about a vaccination.
