Gavin Mitchell had himself at day Thursday afternoon for the Hopkinsville Tigers’ baseball team.
The sophomore struck out nine batters and allowed only one hit through six innings and went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Tigers to an 11-0 District 8 win over host Fort Campbell.
Two of Mitchell’s hits were doubles as he also drove in two runs.
Hoptown (7-6, 1-1) scored twice in the top of the first inning and that was all the support Mitchell would need.
The Tigers would add a run in the top of the third and then four in the fourth inning as they padded their advantage to 7-0.
Gavin Powell hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth and Mitchell scored on a bases loaded walk to make 9-0. Powell finished 2-for-4 with three runs on the day.
Hoptown finished off the scoring with a pair of runs in the ninth. Noah Burham had an RBI single and Declan Goeddertz stole home for the final run.
Fort Campbell slipped to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the district.
The two teams will play again tonight at 5:30 at Tiger Field.
