HPD investigating after local scammed out of money

The Hopkinsville Police Department is investigating after a local was scammed out of $15,000.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, a 77-year-old woman was contacted by a suspect who was claiming to be the IRS, and demand $15,300, which the victim withdrew and then put into a Bitcoin account.

No arrests have yet been made—the incident is being investigated as felony theft by deception.
