>>Golden State Warriors President-GM Steps Down

 

(San Francisco, CA)  — The executive who helped build the Golden State Warriors into a NBA dynasty is stepping away from the franchise.  Bob Myers told ESPN he is stepping down as the team’s president and general manager.  The two-time executive of the year said, “It’s just time.”  The Warriors won four NBA titles during his time with the team.  Myers’ contract is set to expire in June and ESPN reported he declined ownership offers included in a new deal that would’ve made him one of the highest paid NBA executives.

 

>>Capitals Hire Spencer Carbery

 

(Washington D.C.)  — The Capitals have hired their next bench boss.  Washington has named Spencer Carbery as its new head coach.  The 41-year-old is receiving a four-year deal, according to ESPN.  Carbery was most recently an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and returns to the Capitals organization after spending time with their ECHL and AHL affiliates.  He was named ECHL Coach of the Year in 2014 and AHL Coach of the Year in 2021.  The Caps parted ways with Peter Laviolette after missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

 

>>Texas Hires Former Wisconsin And Pitt Coach

 

(Austin, TX)  — Texas football is adding an experienced member to its coaching staff.  Paul Chryst will join the Longhorns as a special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian.  The former Wisconsin coach was fired midseason last year after the Badgers went 2-and-3.  The 57-year-old was a career 67-and-26 at Wisconsin and won three division titles.  He also guided the Badgers to a Cotton Bowl victory in 2017 and an Orange Bowl win the following season.  Chryst also spent three seasons at Pitt where he went 19-and-19 as a head coach.  He was also a coordinator at Oregon State and Illinois State.

 

>>Top Transfer Caleb Love Commits To Arizona

 

(Tucson, AZ)  — The top player in the transfer portal is making his decision on where he will continue his college basketball career.  Caleb Love announced his commitment to Arizona on Tuesday.  The former North Carolina guard had originally committed to Michigan earlier this offseason before an admissions issue led him to re-enter the portal.  Love averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game with the Tar Heels last season.  Arizona is coming off a season where they finished with a 28-and-7 record and were bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

(Paris)  — The action continues on the clay courts at the French Open.  Thiago Seyboth Wild shocked the tennis world, defeating second-seeded Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller.  Fourth-seeded Casper Ruud and sixth-seeded Holger Rune both rolled into the second round with victories.  Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul each advanced, while J.J. Wolf was ousted in the first round.  On the women’s side, top-seeded Iga Swiatek and fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina won in straight sets.  Coco Gauff survived a three-set battle, while fellow Americans Alison Riske-Amritraj and Shelby Rogers were both eliminated.

 

>>Titans Sign Veteran Defensive Lineman

 

(Nashville, TN)  — The Titans are adding to their defensive line.  Jordan Shultz with The Score reports Jaleel Johnson is signing with Nashville.  Johnson spent time with the Texans and Falcons last season.  He was originally selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2017 draft.  Johnson has 125 tackles and six-and-a-half sacks over his six-year career.  In other news, the team will practice with the Vikings before their preseason game on August 19th.
