Off-duty HPD officer arrested on burglary charge

An off-duty Hopkinsville police officer was arrested Saturday morning after she allegedly forced her way into a Gracey home and assaulted a man inside.

Christian County Sheriff’s Maj. Jason Newby says 25-year old Cheyenne Rose had been at Rip’s bar in Gracey and that she left and went to a home nearby just before 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Rose allegedly demanded to be let in and damaged a screen door to get inside when a woman denied her entry.

The arrest citation says Rose then shoved a man inside the home onto a couch, causing his glasses to break.

Major Newby says there doesn’t appear to be any prior relationship between Rose and the residents and it’s believed alcohol intoxication was a factor.

Rose was arrested about two hours later at another location and charged with burglary in the second-degree.

Rose graduated from basic training to become an officer in April after having previously served as a public safety officer for the Hopkinsville Police Department.

She has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of an internal investigation, according to Hopkinsville Police Chief Clayton Summer.
