Kentucky Downs South Carolina State on Thursday

Coming off a tough, double overtime loss to Michigan State on Tuesday night, and with a trip to Gonzaga awaiting them, it would have been easy for No. 4 Kentucky to overlook Thursday night’s opponent, South Carolina State. The Cats, however, had no such thoughts. Kentucky came out hot, hitting four of its first six shots on its way to an 11-3 lead. The Cats would never trail in the game and would win 106-63 at Rupp Arena. Cason Wallace continued his solid early season play. The freshman from Dallas had 12 points and three assists in Thursday’s game. Point guard Sahvir Wheeler had just six points but he dished out 10 assists for the Cats.

(Undated)  — Kentucky beat South Carolina State 106-63 and improved to 3-and-1 on the college basketball season.  The fourth-ranked Wildcats play Number-2 Gonzaga Sunday night in Spokane.  Vanderbilt sits at 1-and-2 and hosts Morehead State tonight.  The 1-and-1 Tigers entertain VCU Sunday night.  Louisville is looking for their first win of the year on Monday against 10th-ranked Arkansas.  Number-17 Tennessee tips off against Butler in the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis on Wednesday.

Green, Walker Lead Kentucky Past Bellarmine

Blair Green scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Kentucky women’s team overcame a slow start to top Bellarmine 63-45 on Thursday night at Memorial Coliseum. Jada Walker had 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and two assists for the Cats, while Robyn Benton had 11 points. Maddie Scherr had six points, eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block. Kentucky (4-0) turned up the defensive intensity in the game, forcing 27 Bellarmine turnovers. The Cats were able to turn those miscues into 24 points. The Cats also dominated in fast break points in the game, 16-0.

Racers Take Down Texas A&M In Myrtle Beach Battle

The Murray State Racers put together a gritty performance Thursday in a wire-to-wire 88-79 win over the No. 24 ranked Texas A&M Aggies (2-1) in the first game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational at HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina. The Racers (2-1) move into Friday’s semifinals against the UMass Minutemen with a 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time tip on ESPN2. UMass (2-1) defeated Colorado 66-63.

Austin Peay takes out South Florida

Elijah Hutchins-Everett canned a game-winning trey with 1:22 to play, giving Austin Peay State University its first-ever win in five tries against South Florida, 62-60, on Thursday in the Yuengling Center. Both teams played their first of three games in the Greenlight Sunshine Slam, presented by Discount Tire. Austin Peay faces Albany at 11 a.m. CT, Nov. 21, in the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Govs battle, fall late at Vanderbilt

Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2022-23 season following a 70-61 defeat against Vanderbilt, Thursday, at Memorial Gymnasium. The fourth quarter. Vanderbilt outscored Austin Peay 24-17 over the final 10 minutes, while also making over 72 percent of their baskets. The Commodores hit all six of their late-game free throws to secure the win and knocked down a pair of three-point shots.
