>>Reds Win Rubber Game Against Cubs 7-1

(Chicago, IL)  — The Reds take down the Cubs 7-1 in their rubber-game matchup.  Aristides Aquino led the offense after smashing two homers while driving in three runs.  Jake Fraley also crushed a home run and Mike Minor got the win after allowing just one run in five-plus innings of work.  The team will go for the series win this afternoon as it concludes in Chicago.

>>Cubs Lose To Reds

(Chicago, IL)  — The Cubs left nine men on base in a 7-1 loss to the Reds at Wrigley Field.  Chicago rattled off 12 hits, but went just one-for-ten with runners in scoring position.  Javier Assad was charged with his first loss after giving up four runs in five-and-a-third innings.  The Cubs fall to 57-and-79, and they host the San Francisco Giants tomorrow.

Cubs manager David Ross says catcher Yan Gomes has been terrific with their young pitching staff.

St. Louis Cardinals 6, Washington Nationals 5

>>Cardinals Rally Past Nationals

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Nationals 6-5 at Busch Stadium.  Tommy Edman hit a two-run walk-off double to end the game after St. Louis trailed 5-1 entering the frame.  Paul Goldschmidt hit his 35th home run of the season, and Jake Woodford picked up his fourth win in relief.  The Cardinals improve to 81-and-56, and they lead the NL Central by nine-and-a-half games over Milwaukee.  Adam Wainwright starts for the Cardinals against Washington today.

Atlanta Braves 7, Oakland Athletics 3

>>Braves Take Down Athletics

(Oakland, CA)  — Dansby Swanson hit his 18th home run of the season as the Braves took down the Athletics 7-3 in Oakland.  Vaughn Grissom also homered for Atlanta.  Spencer Strider struck out nine over six innings while allowing two runs to pick up the win for the Braves, who are 86-and-51 and just a half-game behind the Mets for the NL East lead.  Atlanta will visit the Mariners tomorrow.

>>Cardinals Place Dylan Carlson On Injured List

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals will be missing one of their outfielders for the better part of the next two weeks.  Dylan Carlson was placed in the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain yesterday.  Carlson is hitting .240 with eight home runs and 39 RBI this season.  To replace Carlson, the Cardinals called up their number-five prospect Alec Burleson from Triple-A Memphis.  Outfielder Conner Capel was also designated for assignment.
