Veteran HFD engineer retires, Oak Grove firefighter graduates Nashville FD academy

A Hopkinsville firefighter has worked his last shift after 25 years of service and an Oak Grove volunteer firefighter has graduated from the Nashville Metro Fire Department Academy and will soon begin serving there.

Saturday was the final day for Engineer Anthony “Tony” Harris after a quarter-century at HFD. The department noted his service to the city and his country, adding he also served eight years in the Marines and 14 in the reserves before joining the department in 1996.

He has also been a member of the Haz-Mat and Honor Guard Teams. In his 25 years, he has worked under four different fire chiefs and five different mayors.

Meanwhile, Oak Grove Fire Captain Dexter Stills graduated Saturday from the Nashville Fire Department academy.

Oak Grove officials praised Captain Stills for continuing to respond to local calls as often as possible, even while going through the Nashville academy.
