USPS, KSP investigation leads to arrest of man on fentanyl charge

A Hopkinsville man who was allegedly set to receive a package through the mail containing 100 fentanyl pills was arrested Friday by Kentucky State Police.

An arrest citation for 45-year old Nathan Smith of Hopkinsville says a US Postal inspector began the investigation and removed the pills from the package due to the dangerous nature of fentanyl.

They were replaced with another item and Smith retrieved the package from the post office at a little after 1 p.m. Friday, according to the report.

Interviewed at the Hopkinsville Police Department, Smith reportedly denied knowing the contents of the package, but admitted to having a pill addiction.

He was arrested and charged with importing fentanyl.

He was lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
