Non-partisan elections committee likely to hold public forum soon

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says a public forum could be held in the near future to discuss non-partisan elections in the city.

A committee was formed in the summer that is designed to gather information about non-partisan elections and then to present those findings to City Council about if those types of elections are the right fit for Hopkinsville. Mayor Lynch says that committee is looking to hold a public forum, likely sometime in December, and he expects more information to be released about that soon.

There will only be one meeting of the Hopkinsville City Council, on December 7, and Mayor Lynch says it’s a full agenda.

Council approved non-partisan local elections while maintaining the 12-ward structure last year, but Mayor Lynch vetoed the ordinance to allow more time for studies and community education.
