Arraignment was held Friday morning for 36-year-old Mory Burse of Hopkinsville, the man charged with murder for the Wednesday night shooting death of 48-year-old Devon Kendrick on Sharpe Street.
Christian District Judge Foster Cotthoff entered a not guilty plea to the murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon charges and set his preliminary hearing for August 4.
The judge left Burse’s bond at half a million dollars, deeming him a danger to others and likely to commit additional crimes.
A Hopkinsville Police Department arrest warrant alleges Burse used a 9 mm handgun to shoot Kendrick multiple times in the torso and arms just before midnight Wednesday at a location behind the East Ninth Street Dollar General on Sharpe Street.
Kendrick was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he died from his injuries several hours later.
