The Christian County Chamber of Commerce located in beautiful southwest Kentucky has an open position for Military Affairs Director.

 Job Overview

The Director of Military Affairs advocates, conducts outreach and supervises events that build and strengthen Christian County ties to our military families. The director organizes and coordinates Military Affairs Committee (MAC) activities and functions, maintains and strengthens relationships with Fort Campbell, the military community and military advocacy groups. The director helps to market our community to active-duty military members, retirees and families through liaison with other Christian County organizations. The director engages in sponsor support and other activities that enable businesses and entities to give back to the military and the community with donations, support and other forms of financial assistance. The director engages with the Kentucky Legislature on state level – legislative issues that involve military subjects and supports federal legislative issues that impact Fort Campbell, military families and retirees through liaison with organizations with a federal mandate. In addition, the director will serve as the staff liaison with the Military Affairs Committee of the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.

  • Helps plan, direct and supervise MAC events in conjunction with the MAC Advisory Board.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Fort Campbell.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with the DAV, VFW and other military advocacy groups.
  • Market community to active duty, retirees and families.
  • Engage in sponsor outreach to support MAC programs and events.
  • Engage with Kentucky Legislature on military issues.
  • Support and enhance Eagle Ambassador program.
  • Oversee the MAC Magazine.
  • Military employment – help to connect dots.
  • Liaison with local elected officials and community leaders.
  • Liaison with state legislature.
  • Liaison with other military communities.
  • Helps solve workforce and housing issues.

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or like work experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Pleasant personality works well with others, values other’s contributions.
  • Multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work with sponsors and give them value for funds spent.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation.
  • Pass any required drug test.
  • Have fun while providing bold leadership to make our community an even better place to live, work, learn, play and visit for our military friends.

 

Helpful qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations.
  • Previous experience working with the military community.
  • Lives in local community.
  • Previous experience working with sponsorships.

 

Reports to: President/CEO, Christian County Chamber of Commerce. Advised by the Military Affairs Advisory Board.

 

Compensation / Benefits

Salary range for this position is $38,500 to $43,500.00 with incentive percentage of sponsorships above yearly goal. Additional benefits include health, dental, and eye insurance, mileage reimbursement, simple matching IRA participation and flexible hours.
