Grand jury returns indictments for North Elm St. shooting, assault

A Christian County Grand Jury returned indictments for first-degree assault and sexual abuse Friday.

An indictment for first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession by a handgun by a convicted felon is 25-year old Marshawn Taylor of Hopkinsville in relation to a shooting incident that occurred in May on North Elm Street.  As previously reported, Taylor is accused of shooting 26-year old Marka Smith of Owensboro in the wrist and hip while she was sitting in a vehicle in the 100 block of North Elm.

Taylor went to Jennie Stuart Medical Center that same night with a minor, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh and was treated and released into the custody of Hopkinsville police.

Indicted for second-degree assault, domestic violence and fourth-degree assault is 31-year old Christopher McGrane of Oak Grove.  He allegedly punched his then wife and another female victim in the face, when that victim tried to protect the other when a situation turned violent.  Both victims suffered facial injuries that required medical treatment at Tennova Medical Clinic. Officers reportedly discovered ample evidence of blood in the Ashley Street residence where the assault occurred, along with broken glass from a window.

Indicted for first-degree sexual abuse is 43-year old Joseph Murphy of Hopkinsville, who is alleged to have forcibly attempted to pull the female victim’s bra off and reached under her shirt to touch her inappropriately against her will in May.
