Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith was named today as the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year. Smith-who is also a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy-is the first wide out to win the award since it was established in 1998. Alabama faces Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals on New Year’s Day.
The Texas Bowl between Arkansas and TCU on New Year’s Eve was canceled today due to Covid-19 issues in the TCU football program. The game becomes the 15th bowl game to be canceled this post season.
