This is Fall Severe Weather Awareness Week in western Kentucky and the National Weather Service in Paducah is reminding residents of the dangers of tornadoes and other threats. Three local players advanced to the Girls KHSAA State Tournament next week in Bowling Green after play in the 2nd region tournament Tuesday at Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club. Boys: University Heights eased by Mayfield 7-5, Hopkinsville shut out Logan County 5-0, Warren East downed Christian County 4-0, Bowling Green blanked Todd Central 5-0, Madisonville downed Graves County 5-1, Marshall County routed Webster County 11-1, Muhlenberg County topped Russellville 2-0. Girls: University Heights routed Mayfield 10-0, Muhlenberg County edged Todd Central 1-0, Caldwell County blanked Lyon County 4-0, Crittenden County routed Murray 7-1.

Kentucky Speedway loses NASCAR races

Kentucky Speedway has lost its spot on NASCAR's schedule, the racetrack said Tuesday night ahead of NASCAR's announcement of venues and dates for next year. Kentucky held its first Cup Series race in 2011 and has hosted a triple header in recent years with races in NASCAR's Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series. Its last NASCAR race was this past July.
