Two charged with trafficking in synthetic drugs in Hopkins County investigation

Two Graham residents have been arrested following an investigation into synthetic marijuana trafficking in Hopkins County.

That’s according to the Madisonville-Hopkins County Vice Narcotics Unit, who says in a report that 41-year old Darrin Shelton and 42-year old Penny Babbs were the primary suspects in a manufacturing and trafficking synthetic drugs investigation. Detectives conducted undercover, controlled purchases of drugs from both Shelton and Babbs.

A search warrant was executed on a residence in Madisonville Wednesday and seized approximately 15 pounds of synthetic marijuana, digital scales, packaging material and other assorted drug paraphernalia. Several chemicals were also reportedly seized that are used in the manufacturing of synthetic drugs.

Shelton allegedly admitted to manufacturing the drugs. Shelton and Babbs were both arrested and charged with trafficking in synthetic drugs and the investigation is ongoing.
