This is National Public Works Week and the City of Hopkinsville is showing its appreciation to the employees who take care of the city’s infrastructure.
The theme of the week is ‘It Starts Here’ and Mayor Carter Hendricks is quoted in a news release as saying, “What an appropriate reminder of the vital role our Public Works professionals play in building and maintaining the community’s infrastructure. From streets to sidewalks to drainage, it starts here.”
Hopkinsville Public Works Department, under the direction of Mike Perry, is comprised of four divisions: City Maintenance, Parks & Recreation, the Service Center, and Public Works Administration.
In 2018 the Hopkinsville Public Works Department completed 26 drainage projects, put down 300 tons of salt during bad weather, paved 5.4 miles of roadway, constructed 2.2 miles of sidewalks, spent almost 4,200 hours trimming trees, and hosted 62 special events.
