The National Weather Service in Paducah is monitoring the possibility a winter storm could cause travel problems this weekend in western Kentucky.
There have been consistent signals in weather models that an accumulating snowfall will happen in the region, according to Senior Forecaster Dan Spaeth, who says in an email that snow could begin as soon as Friday night in southeast Missouri and then exit western Kentucky sometime Sunday or early Monday.
He says sleet and freezing rain could mix in with snow during that time period, but it appears snow will be the predominant precipitation type.
It’s far too early to pin down accumulation amounts and Spaeth says there remains a possibility a majority of the precipitation will be to our south.
