Barnes transitioning into Trigg sheriff role

The transition process is beginning for Jason Barnes to become the next Trigg County sheriff.

Sheriff Ray Burnam, who lost to Barnes in the Republican primary, says Barnes will be sworn in as a deputy Thursday to begin the transition process with the current sheriff through the month of November.

Burnam is retiring December 1st and says Trigg Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander is expected to appoint Barnes as acting sheriff. Barnes’ first full term will begin January 1st.

Barnes has served the last several years an officer with the Hopkinsville Police Department.
