Phil Mickelson reeled off six straight birdies en route to an opening-round 65 at the Safeway Open, the first event of the PGA Tour’s 2018-19 schedule. Mickelson rebounded from a winless result at last week’s Ryder Cup to sit two shots back of leader Sepp Straka,
who carded a 9-under 63.
Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker is tied for fourth at six under 66, Campbellsville native JB Holmes is tied for 54th at two under and Lexington native Josh Teater is tied for 78th at one under par.
