Soldiers lost defending freedom didn’t die in vain

A crowd gathered at Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville Memorial Day morning to join VFW Post 1913 as they remembered those who died defending freedom.

Karle Johnson is the Kentucky VFW commander and is a lifetime member of the Cadiz VFW post. He gave the keynote address and says a Memorial Day service is a time to reflect on a myriad of thoughts and emotions associated with loss of patriots who died defending their country.

He says it’s a time to honor and remember their service.

Johnson says that because of those who fought before and since, the price paid by those buried at Riverside and at cemeteries across the country were not in vain.

Local boy scouts handed out American flags that were waved during the service.
