Five Democrats running for Christian County sheriff debate

Five Democrats are seeking the office of Christian County Sheriff and they debated Monday evening at the League of Women Voters forums at City Hall.

Told to name his top priority other than public safety for a sheriff’s department under his leadership, Kahle Morris, Jr. says he’ll try to prevent crime, beginning with programs for young people.

Sheriff’s Lt. Lyn Moe says he’ll place an increased focus on training and on staying up to date with technology.

Hopkinsville Police Officer Julius Catlett, Sr. says he’d reallocate school resource officers to schools in more rural areas.

Retired KSP detective Jerry Pepper says he’ll make sure deputies receive specialized training for major investigations.

Sheriff’s Sgt. James Dragoo says he’ll reinvigorate the neighborhood watch programs in the county.

All five candidates praised Sheriff Livy Leavell for how he’s operated the department, but say they’ll bring in fresh ideas.
