A burglary, assault and standoff in Madisonville Tuesday afternoon ended with an arrest.
The incident began about 2:40 p.m., according to a news release from Madisonville Police, which says 23-year old Travis Camplin of Madisonville forced his way into the home of his estranged girlfriend through a window.
He allegedly held her against her will and struck her multiple times with a handgun. Two children that Camplin and the victim have in common were in the room during the alleged assault, according to police.
The victim eventually escaped and called 911 and Camplin barricaded himself inside the home with the children.
Chemical agents were deployed by police when Camplin refused orders to surrender and officers entered the home after three hours and found him inside the attic.
Camplin was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, criminal child abuse, first-degree burglary and resisting arrest.
