HPD arrests man for DUI, cocaine possession

A traffic stop for no headlights Saturday night led to the arrest a man on drugs and alcohol charges.

Hopkinsville Police stopped 38-year old James Dobbins of Nashville at North Main Street and Glass Avenue for driving without his lights on about 9:30 p.m. and an arrest citation says a computer check showed his license was suspended in Tennessee.

There was an odor of alcohol coming from Dobbins’ person and he had a partially consumed bottle of beer in his lap.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed other open alcohol containers and a search of Dobbins’ person turned up a small straw and a baggie of white powder that he admitted was cocaine.

Dobbins was arrested for DUI, possession of an open alcohol container, possession of cocaine and several other charges.
